Shock Wave Lithotripsy(SWL) Terms:
Cystoscopy: Visual inspection of the bladder using an instrument called a cystoscope inserted through the urethra
ECG: A special type of heart test called an electrocardiogram
Fluoroscopy: Observing the internal body organs by x-ray studies
Hematuria: Blood in the urine
IVP: Intravenous Pyelogram, an x-ray test using intravenously administered dye for visualization of kidney, ureter, and bladder
KUB: An x-ray film of kidney, ureter, and bladder to locate stones
Lithotripsy: Non-invasive procedure that disintegrates stones into small particles with shock waves
SWL: Shock Wave Lithotripsy, non-surgical crushing of kidney and ureteral stones by shock waves generated outside the body
Ureteral Stent: A thin tube inserted through the cystoscope and placed in the ureter prior to SWL treatment
Ureteroscopy: Visual inspection of the entire length of the ureter

Transurethral Microwave Therapy(TUMT) Terms:
TUMT: Transurethral Microwave Therapy, non-surgical treatment of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia of the Prostate
Hematuria: Blood in the urine
Indwelling Catheter: A tube (catheter) inserted through the urethra to continuously drain the bladder
TRUS: Transrectal Ultrasound - a type of ultrasound performed to evaluate the prostate gland
Urinary Flow Study: A test to measure how rapidly urine is expelling from the bladder
AUA Symptom Score: A questionnaire completed by patients to evaluate the severity of urinary symptoms
